By your side, start to finish
A promise made is a promise kept.
JW Custom Carpentry is led by Jonathan Barbosa, a finish carpenter who believes the details you touch every day — a handrail, a newel post, a window casing — should feel right for decades.
We work directly with homeowners, general contractors, and designers across the South Shore, Cape Cod, and Greater Boston. Clear communication, clean job sites, and work we stand behind — every time.
"Jonathan treated our home like it was his own. The staircase is the first thing every guest comments on."
Our approach
From first conversation to final coat.
- Phase 01
Listen
We visit your home, walk the space, and learn how you live — your style, your budget, and what you want the finished room to feel like.
- Phase 02
Design
We measure precisely and plan every detail: stair geometry, wood species, profiles, and finishes — with a clear, written estimate.
- Phase 03
Build
Careful craftsmanship on site and in the shop. We protect your home, keep the job clean, and keep you updated every step of the way.
- Phase 04
Deliver
A final walkthrough together, every detail checked. Work we are proud to put our name on — and that you will love for years.

Questions
Good to know before we begin.
What areas do you serve?
We work throughout Cape Cod to Boston — all of Cape Cod, the South Shore, and the Greater Boston area. If you're just outside that range, reach out and we'll let you know.
What kind of work do you do?
Our specialty is staircases: new stairs, curved stairs, stair remodels, treads, handrails, newel posts, and balusters. We also do all types of interior carpentry — built-ins, fireplace surrounds, cabinetry installation, doors, trim, wainscoting, shiplap, and beamed or coffered ceilings.
How do I get an estimate?
Send a request through the form, call or text (774) 368-9695, or message us on Instagram. Photos and rough measurements help. Jonathan will follow up to talk through the project and set up a visit if needed.
Do you work with builders and designers?
Yes. We regularly work alongside general contractors, architects, and interior designers on new construction and renovations, as well as directly with homeowners.
How long does a staircase project take?
It depends on the design and whether it is new construction or a remodel. A tread and railing update can take days, while a custom curved stair takes longer to plan and build. We will give you a clear timeline before work begins.
What woods do you work with?
White oak and red oak are the most common for treads and handrails, along with maple, cherry, walnut, pine, and paint-grade materials. We will help you choose what fits the style of the home and your budget.
Begin the conversation
The best stairs begin long before the first cut.
